The Art of Dining    
Craft Gallery, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists
24th May - 23rd July
 
Explore the relationship between food and object.
Including jewellery, ceramics and textiles, this exhibition
will investigate the social importance of food and dining.
It includes direct representations of food and tableware
that is purely decorative. ‘The Art of Dining’ will be a
sumptuous exhibition and an intriguing insight into the
varied techniques and skills utilised by makers
in their creative practices.

Over 20 textile artists combine to provide a treasure trove of
rich, exotic fabric. Contemporary and traditional techniques

For the first time The Biscuit Factory presented
an innovative and contemporary exhibition
exclusively dedicated to the world of textile art.
The exhibition featured artists from across the UK
who employed a diverse range of techniques in
their work using both traditional and new materials.
For this exhibition we created special versions of our
Beehive and Cupcake Jewellery Pincushions and our
Chocolates & Trinket Tray Jewellery Box.

A large circular chocolate
box covered with burgundy
fabric and decorated with
a bow made from rich
gold silk.
 
The box is filled with an
assortment of milk, white
and dark chocolates
handmade  from felted
wool.
 
All seventy-five chocolates
are individual in design.

A large French knitted hive made from
pure Teeswater wool and filled with
English lavender.
 
Needle felted bumble bees in black
and yellow with white felted wings.
 
The bumble bees are on hat pins so that
they appear to hover around the hive or
are stitched to its surface.
 
Black running stitch detail tracing the flight
of the bumble bees.

A tower of cupcakes on a three tiered
calico cake stand. The plates of the
cake stand have pleated edges.
 
The cupcakes are handmade from
felted wool and cashmere. They are
decorated with felted cherries and pearl pins.
 
Each cupcake is encased in ticking fabric
and filled with English lavender.

Clerkenwell Design Week is a three-day annual festival celebrating design’s creative richness, its social impact and its power for change.
 
With over 60 design showrooms and a plethora of architectural studios as well as graphic design and fashion houses, Clerkenwell is undoubtedly the UK’s design hub and Clerkenwell Design Week aims to bring together and celebrate the area’s rich and diverse design community.
 
The festival will feature a packed programme of stimulating design focused seminars, talks and workshops as well as exciting events hosted by iconic design names and exclusive UK product launches. 
 
A true festival atmosphere will infuse throughout the area, utilising Clerkenwell’s bars, restaurants and
public spaces to create lively al-fresco dining occasions, funky design markets, off the wall street performances, installations, exhibitions and public/music events.
 
Clerkenwell Design Week will excite, inspire, educate, inform and entertain.
